Dojo Update & Sensei’s Upcoming Journey
I hope this message finds you and your family in good health.
As time passes so quickly, it’s amazing to share that our dojo is heading into its 40th year—hard to believe, especially with Sensei being only 38! Over the years, we’ve built a phenomenal history together.
Countless memories have been shaped, and both our students and the dojo have experienced incredible growth. We are truly grateful to have you as part of this journey.
Sensei’s path in martial arts began in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and his dedication has never wavered. His journey has taken him far, with many opportunities to travel and learn. However, since the dojo was closed for nearly a year during COVID, his focus has remained here at home, and he hasn’t had the chance to travel since.
Recently, Sensei’s wife of nearly ten years reminded him that after celebrating his 65th birthday (not 38), now is the time to embrace travel again. Together, they have planned a three-and-a-half-week journey that will take them to Seoul, Osaka, Kyoto, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Suzhou.
We will then travel to Jinan to see Yan's family and we'll fly back to YVR from Beijing. It promises to be a memorable trip filled with rich history, beautiful temples, ancient cities, and incredible cuisine.
Sensei will be away from May 15th to June 7th.
During this time, the dojo will be in excellent hands. Supporting Sensei and our brown belt instructors will be Sempai Sukhjiwan, who has adjusted his schedule at UBC to be more present at the dojo. For those who have not yet met him, he is a dynamic instructor and dedicated martial artist.
In addition, our senior black belt instructors will continue to lead the adult evening classes, ensuring consistency and high-quality instruction for all students.
Sensei and Yan will travel with peace of mind, knowing the dojo and its students are being cared for with dedication and excellence.
Thank you all for your continued support of our dojo and community.
Warm regards,
Robbert Intveld - Sensei
